The photographs below are just from one day of riding– and I didn’t stop to record the half of it. There were simply too many to photograph.

I have seen these memorials on every tour I’ve ridden, in the U.S., in Australia, and now here in Chile. They commemorate the spot where the person was last alive, almost always killed by a car.

People driving in cars always miss them. But as a bicycle rider, you can’t fail to notice EVERY SINGLE ONE.

Cars are killing machines which are not often recognized for what they are. So many people have lost their lives needlessly. That’s why I no longer call these occurrences as “accidents” but as a “crash” for the brutal nature. (Read any newspaper that reports on these events and you will notice how the reporter feels about the event by the terminology they use.)

These needless deaths have got to stop.
