Punta Arenas to Rio Grande

From Punta Arenas, we take a ferry ride over to the actual island of Tierra Del Fuego. This starts our ride in Tierra del Fuego.
First night camping overlooking Bahia Unitil, right off the Strait of Magellan. Gorgeous evening.
Really pleasant. From the tent, Ken saw whales spouting and both of us watched dolphins jumping over the waters. What memorable camping!
Windy days
Rain afar off
Refugios (public service wind shelters) where Ken and I spent the night.
First sighting of the Atlantic Ocean!
Arriving in Rio Grande
Rio Grande was where a lot of the operations of the Malvinas War (Falkland War, to the British) operated from. It is a loss they don’t want to forget.
Waiting for pizza after days on the road.

  1. Congratulations, everyone! I see from Ride With GPS that you are nearing your destination–finally! Wow! Such an accomplishment. I can’t remember if I told you, Thuan, but when we were in Alaska last summer we met two guys from Anchorage on their bikes. Destination–Ushuaia. We could not believe it. After we drove away that day in our RVs, all of us made the comment–“those guys are not coming back”. Meaning…they’re going to die along the way somewhere…so impossible seemed the task. Stay safe out there…

    1. Yes, almost there. I’m planning on doing the ultimate goal to me: set up my tent facing southward overlooking the Beagle Channel. Being in nature in the southern most location a bike can be. In upper 30s temp at night; fun fun.
      Thanks for following along!

  2. YES! CONGRATULATIONS! Thanks for the beautiful photographs…..
    Take care of yourselves….

    1. A few more days to go. And hopefully a few more photos to post. Thanks for being there with me along the way.

    1. Almost there. About 70 miles to go, but we’re going to draw it out and savor the ending moment and go the long way around, at 90 more miles. With some final hike a bike. Fun fun.
As always, wishing you the best. Thanks for following along.
