Moving into More Greenery
As we leave the place in Los Angeles, Chile, where we took a much needed 3-day rest, we start heading south again.

We get on Chile’s main north-south highway, Ruta 5, that connects this ultra-thin country, and pedal away. Coming from Santiago, we had passed a lot of farmland and vineyards in the open spaces. But now we expect to see more forested lands. This southern part of central Chile is where many Chileans go for vacationing, sort of like heading to Montana and expecting to go to Yellowstone. The Los Lagos region, which we’ll teach in about a week, is vacation-land for Chileans. But for now, we’ll expect to see more available campgrounds as we go south.
Crossing down the 5, we hit upon a roadside restaurant, where we stopped for a short break.

On our way we catch our first glimpse of what we think is Mt. Lonquimay from far off.

Then later we stop for lunch at a roadside food stand.

But at long last we reach our intended campground for the day.

And the next day was the same, as we traveled.

And ending in another campsite.
